For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. (Titus 2:11-14)
Because of the grace that God has given me by saving me from myself, I am being trained by His Spirit to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live a self-controlled, upright and godly life. He gave Himself for me to redeem me and purify me. My response to his marvelous grace should be to glorify Him through good works in anticipation of His second coming. Through Him I have hope, and I want everyone to know of the hope that I have through Him. God is addressing me specifically as a young man to me self-controlled and to lead by example. Jesus lead by example and I am following His footsteps. But I must also remember that I am not saved through emulation, but through the transformative work of salvation through the cross and the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit.
